Mercury dips in Kashmir Valley

Cold wave has intensified in Kashmir Valley with minimum temperatures dipping four to five degrees Celsius below freezing point at some places.
Pahalgam tourist resort in south Kashmir was coldest in the Valley where mercury plunged to minus 4.6 degrees Celsius last night, a MeT department official said.
Qazigund, the gateway town to the Valley, freezed at minus 3.6 degrees Celsius while north Kashmir’s Gulmarg sking resort recorded a low of minus three degrees.
The minimum temperature in summer capital Srinagar fell by 2.1 degrees to settle at minus 1.3 degrees, the official said.
However, day temperatures remained above normal with North Kashmir’s Kupwara town recording a maximum of 15.8 degrees Celsius.
The other places recorded day temperatures at around 15 degrees Celsius.
Gulmarg was comparatively colder with a maximum of 11 degrees C, the official said.
